What’s the first thing you want to do when you get to your Orlando villa? If the answer is put on the kettle, then read on…
Whilst on route to your Florida villa you are likely to pass a Publix, Walmart or Target these are all supermarkets where you could pick up some milk, tea, coffee and sugar. You might also be surprised to hear that Walgreens chemists will also sell these items and are more likely to be open later in the evening.
Walmart is the largest of these companies and sell anything and everything, you can easily loose hours in this place! Groceries and usually cheapest here, but the sizes may be larger than you need for your holiday, although if you are part of a large group this will be your best option. There are three main Walmarts that are within a few miles of most holiday homes in the area, one going north on HWY 27 near to Glenbrook Resort and on route to Orange Tree, another is located south on HWY 27 next to Southern Dunes, and the third is in Kissimmee ideally situated for Bella Vida Resort and rental homes on Poinciana Blvd.
Publix is a more upmarket supermarket, which has a great deli, fresh vegetables and fruit section, fish counter with live lobster, sushi, and meat section. Staff are extremely helpful in Publix, for example, the meat is packaged on site I found what I was looking for but it was too large so the butcher kindly broke it into smaller packs and repackaged it for me. They also have packers to help with packing at the tills and will also help take it to the car, rain or shine! Publix is slightly more expensive but they have a much better selection and have many offers on everyday items which brings the price of the overall shop down. As a tip, when items are shown as multibuy, for example 10 for $5, you don’t actually have to buy the 10 to get the offer, the reduced price will show on the till receipt even if you only bought one! There are many Publix supermarkets in the Orlando area, with one located next to each of these villa rental communities – Ridgewood Lakes, Highlands Reserve, West Haven (Champions Gate), Reunion Resort, High Grove.
Target supermarkets have the least choice and can be quite expensive, especially for fresh items, including vegetables and meat. They may however be more convenient to you than travelling to Walmart. Target also sell household items should you need anything for your stay, there fashion department is quite good too! If you see a Super Target, these have a larger grocery selection.
